December SEO Notes: The latest in the industry

Our experts each month review all reporting and trends to ensure that our strategies are optimized and ready for any necessary changes!

Here are some of the top December SEO notes that our SEO consultant Denver would like to report on.

Log4J security

Research and reports are showing that a new open source is prompting researchers and companies to upgrade their systems, and in an effort to do so, there have been reports of hacking and malware attacks.

John Mueller, Google’s Search Liaison, on Twitter provides a deeper insight into this problem and possible solutions to fix this from Google themselves. Our corporate office speaks more about this in their latest blog post.

Another security topic to take into consideration is other SEO agencies that are hacking client sites with backlinking strategies to rank their sites higher. It is a very uncommon practice, but experts are noticing this more and more.

This is why it is so imperative to find the right SEO consultant Denver to ensure that your website is in good standing with Google and to avoid these types of problems.

November 2021 Local Search Update

Beginning on November 30, 2021, Google released an official statement regarding the November 2021 Local Search Update which finished on December 8. This local search update has been targeted towards showing Google Business Profiles in the Local Map Pack when someone types in local search queries.

Google provides a list of the necessary information that should be added to all Google Business Profiles here.

Google Business Profiles? Yes, Google has started the transition from Google My Business to Google Business Profiles. It is one of the latest changes.

Multitask United Model (MUM)

In 2019, Google released one of its biggest language learning updates called BERT. In May 2021,  Google announced the release of Multitask United Model (MUM).

As Google’s blog states, “Today’s search engines aren’t quite sophisticated enough to answer the way an expert would. But with a new technology called Multitask Unified Model, or MUM, we’re getting closer to helping you with these types of complex needs. So in the future, you’ll need fewer searches to get things done.”

If you want to travel internationally, probably not anytime soon, you will need to conduct several different search queries to find the best time of year to go, restaurants, museums, hotels, cruise lines, or anything else.

This is what MUM is aiming to diminish. It will analyze images and text from 75 different languages to provide the best results for complex search queries that would normally take several different searches.

Language per page not per website

One common thought of international companies is to add multiple languages onto singular pages; however, Google doesn’t necessarily look at these languages as a whole but languages on individual pages.

If you were to add Spanish, Turkish, and English to a singular page, Google would overlook the language. (This is where BERT and MUM possibly come into play!) You would need to create individual pages on the site for each language.

For more information regarding any of these updates of previous Google algorithms, Core Updates, or more knowledge, check out the December 2021 Google Webmaster Report from Barry Schwartz, CEO of RustyBrick.

Our SEO consultant Denver is here to help guide you through this process. SEO is not a DIY project, and as time continues, it continues to require more design, content, and SEO strategies in order to continue to rank on top.
